Other ways utilize advanced techniques like ray tracing, radiosity, and scanline rendering. The main goal of real-time rendering is for the designer to display as much information in the frames as possible. Designers utilize rendering software to imitate certain visual effects such as lens flares, motion blurs, or depth of field. The visual phenomena is caused by the relationship between the camera characteristics and the human eye. These effects bring an element of realism, even though everything is simulated. The methods of achieving these effects are used in games, interactive worlds, and VRML.

Real-time renderings utilize the computer's GPU, and are usually polygonal. Computer processing abilities have also become even more powerful these days, and have allowed for even more realistic effects. This applies to all sorts of real-time renderings as well, such as HDR rendering.
