By Essie Osborn

There is so much that goes into each one, with their intricate detailing and one-of-a-kind designs, they can impress anyone can improve the look of any home.

They are adored because of their craftsmanship, the time involved to create them, and the warmth they provide. These rugs, which are truly authentic and antique, are never made of any synthetic fabrics or blends. Instead, they are made of fine cotton, wool, or silk yarn.

Much like an artist creates a beautiful painting, the same is true of these rugs, which are actual works of art. As such, good quality and rarer ones will maintain their value, so in the end such a purchase is more of an investment than an expense. They come from different parts of the world, mainly Asia and Persia.

They look fabulous in formal living rooms, even if they are contemporary or modern in theme. They helped to define the room and create conversational areas, as furniture is placed strategically upon them. They are also a great addition to a dining room or bedroom. Smaller ones look fabulous in hallways.

No matter what shape is chosen, or size for that matter, they are easy to decorate with. The important thing is to become familiar with the industry prior to making an investment. Since they can be centuries old, they may be quite expensive, therefore doing one's homework can protect that investment and avoid any unpleasant surprises.

Begin with understanding the terminology. Every industry has its own terminology, and the more one understands, the wiser their purchasing choices will be. The more one knows, the more they can stand to gain over time, as their rug may increase in value.

They were created often by individuals for their own purposes or to sell to the affluent of their time. They are eye catching thanks to their uniqueness and the use of their wonderful colors that blend into beautiful design. Remember that these were created by very skilled individuals, sometimes for themselves and sometimes because they were mandated and paid by the rich. Whatever the case, they have proven to be valuable rugs that have withstood the test of time.
